We Embrace Fika!
Making Time for the Things That Matter
At True North, we embrace ‘Fika’ “Taking time out to slow down, enjoy life’s simple pleasures, and connect with friends over good coffee, cake and conversation.”
For us, it’s about appreciating the little moments, making time for people, and finding inspiration in the everyday.
Fika is a Swedish tradition built around something beautifully simple: taking time out of the day to enjoy a coffee, something sweet, and the company of others.
At its heart, Fika is wonderfully simple.
Good coffee.
Something sweet.
Good company.
And a little time set aside to enjoy them.
That simplicity is what we love about it.
Modern life can become incredibly busy. Work, family, projects and everyday responsibilities quickly fill our time, so there is something refreshing about deliberately stopping for a while.
A coffee with a friend.
Cake around the office desk.
A quiet moment in the morning.
A conversation that goes on longer than expected.
These are often the moments we remember.
Fika is less about the coffee itself and more about the pause, slowing down, making time for people, sharing a conversation and appreciating the small everyday moments.
A Little Moment Called Fika
Fika Matters at True North
Architecture can easily become focused on deadlines, drawings, regulations and decisions. Fika is a reminder to slow things down occasionally and make time for the conversations that really matter.
For us, that means listening properly, understanding how people live, and creating spaces that support everyday life rather than simply looking good on paper.
It also reflects the kind of working relationship we want with our clients: relaxed, open and collaborative.
Some of the best ideas come from an informal conversation over a coffee, when there is space to think, question things and explore different possibilities.
Fika also connects closely with the type of homes we want to help create - warm, comfortable places where people can gather, talk, eat, relax and enjoy the simple moments of everyday life.
At True North, we believe good design should make life better.
And sometimes that starts with simply taking the time to stop, have a coffee and talk.
